One dark and stormy night, long long ago, I was born in Florence, Alabama, where members of my family have lived since 1820.  I graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Secondary Education and  live now in Atlanta and Alabama.

I'm the mother of two sons, two daughters-in-law, and four darling grandchildren.  And I'm lucky to be part of a large, close-knit, (32 at this year'sThanksgiving gathering) family.

I have, at various times: Taught high school history and economics – "I loved it,"  Tried my hand at tennis, volunteering and playing – "The secret is a good doubles partner,"  Been licensed as a private pilot – "I was great at taking off, but …. " Raised two wonderful boys – "the most fun of all."   And of course, writing – "I love, love, love, having written!  The process  itself is just unadorned slogging away  – like picking cotton, one boll at a time, and seeing the end of the row, miles  in the distance."

Some of my more memorable experiences as a result of writing have been: Having my second novel selected as the book of the year for, Alamance County Reads, in North Carolina -"What a great group of volunteers, and talk about a well organized event. No stone was left …". Being a featured author in Southern Living -"YIKES, people keep that magazine FOREVER, and so, years after it appeared, people e-mail me, 'I was sitting in my doctors office today and happened to pick  up…'". Being a Books-a-Million President’s pick for my second novel - "I was blown away by the displays in the BAM stores - cute promo buttons on all the clerks." Being a featured Alabama Author for Cullman City Schools, in North Alabama  - "A wonderful promotion of reading–beautifully done by that school system. They even had billboards, no less!." And having my first novel, that I morphed into a play, win a reading at Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Great fun, all of it."

I could go on and on because writing has given me the chance to know so many people and communities that do great things to promote books and reading: Our public libraries -"Show me a good library and, without fail, it's attached to a great community."  Book clubs - "Love their refreshments and interesting questions."  University writing conferences - "fun to meet other writiers,"  And, ........but I've run out of space.
